Interventional Biopsy Procedure

Zwanger-Pesiri is dedicated to performing x-ray guided (stereotactic), ultrasound guided, and MRI guided outpatient biopsy procedures. We perform biopsies to evaluate unknown masses or other abnormal conditions in t he body.

During the procedure, the doctor inserts a small needle guided by mammography, ultrasound or MRI into the suspicious area. A small sample of tissue is removed and analyzed under a microscope by a board certified pathologist. This provides an extremely detailed analysis and diagnosis of suspicious tissue in areas such as breasts, lungs, liver, pancreas and kidneys. We also perform arthrograms, most often in conjunction with MRI, for imaging virtually every joint in the body.

Breast Biopsy

Lumps or abnormalities in the breast are often detected using mammography or other imaging studies. Sometimes the images from these studies do not show whether the growth is cancerous or benign. A breast biopsy can be performed for a detailed analysis of the growth. Guided by mammography, sonography, or MRI, a small sample of tissue is removed with a small needle from the breast. It is then analyzed by a board certified pathologist. A breast biopsy can replace the need for surgery when assessing a breast abnormality.
